Project description :
Project Purpose:
This Project aimed to reverse the trend of fisheries resource depletion in order to attain sustainable development of the fisheries sector in the long term. Towards this end, the Project: (i) established and implemented comprehensive fisheries management systems to control overfishing and illegal fishing, rationalized the utilization of fisheries resources, and rehabilitated damaged fish habitats; (ii) pilot-tested multiple approaches to promote non-fishing livelihood projects to facilitate the gradual exit from fishing of the municipal fisherfolk; and (iii) strengthened the institutional capabilities of public sector agencies involved in fisheries management, particularly Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), the local government units (LGUs), and coordinating entities such as the Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Management Councils (FARMCs) and Bay Management Councils (BMCs).
OAFIC was exercising oversight responsibility for the provision of technical services to Project Management Office (PMO) in the design and development of the Philippine Fisheries Information System (PhilFIS), specifically the fisheries licensing and registration system for municipal and commercial fishers.

Project description :
Project Purpose:
This Study aimed to formulate the master plan for improving income of small-scale fishers and establishing stable fisheries supply for the coastal fishing communities, 2) to make feasibility study on priority projects and zones, and 3) to transfer technology on fisheries management and community development to local counterparts.
Development Plans:
1. Plan to improve fishing technology and coastal resources management
2. Plan to improve aquaculture technology
3. Plan to improve fish handling, marketing and processing
4. Plan to improve fisheries infrastructure
5. Plan to improve fishing village environment
6. Plan to improve fishers organizations and fisheries extension
7. Educational and training plan
Pilot Projects conducted during the Study:
1. Comparative test on catch and benefit between inside and outside of bay.
2. Experimental fish processing (fish ball, dried fish)
3. Comparative test on the effective ice ratio (freshness test)
4. Fish catch self-recording experiment (using fishers log-book)

Study on Sustainable Aquaculture Development for Food Security and Poverty Reduction
Indonesia, (7 districts in 6 provinces)
Project description :
Project Purpose:
This study aimed to formulate the sustainable aquaculture projects in various types and typical water zones (marine, brackish and fresh water), through the activities of 1) situation analysis, 2) components/site identification, and 3) project formulation and feasibility analysis.
Projects formulated in each project districts:
1. Brackishwater aquaculture development
(1) Langkat (North Sumatra): extensive culture of shrimp / tilapia / seaweed, mud crab (soft-shell) culture, and grouper culture in pond
(2) O.K.I. (South Sumatra): semi-intensive shrimp culture in pond
(3) Karawang (West Java): seaweed culture in pond
2. Freshwater aquaculture development
(1) West Lampung (Lampung): carp / tilapia culture in pond and hatchery
(2) Bandung (West Java): fish fry stocking in natural ox-bow lakes
(3) Kapuas Hulu (West Kalimantan): sand goby culture in cage / arowana reproduction in pond
3. Mariculture development in Buton (Southeast Sulawesi)
(1) seaweed (Eucheuma) culture by rope-hanging methods
(2) mabe-shell handicrafts manufacturing

Project description :
This study aimed to make a feasibility study on development of integrated aquaculture for highly utilization of the flood plain of Huang He River and for increase of production of fish and agriculture products and to transfer the technology on ecological-friendly aquaculture, pond water quality control, and farm management.
Proposed projects:
1. Integrated aquaculture development plan
- Construction/rehabilitation of fish ponds (1,200 ha, for 1,000 households)
- Development of agriculture fields aside ponds (300 ha)
- Improvement of farm roads, electricity lining, drain canal, and
2. Farmers support plan
- Fish seed centers (2 sites, 200 millions pcs. In total)
- Feed plants (2 sites, 15,000 tons/year each)
- Aquaculture technical center (for R&D, education/training)
- Equipment centers (8 sites, for maintenance of fish pond, road, canal)
3. Processing and marketing improvement plan
- Fish collecting and distribution centers (wholesale markets)
